BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 3, 2024) – Bethany College Director of Athletics Brian Sansom has appointed experienced women’s wrestling coach Peter Di Pol to lead the Bethany women’s wrestling program ahead of their inaugural season.
Di Pol comes to Bethany from Middlesex College, where he steered the team to a ninth-place NJCAA finish with six national qualifiers. Before that, Di Pol started the women’s wrestling team at MacMurray College, a former Division III program in Ill. At MacMurray, he coached both the men’s and women’s teams, producing seven national qualifiers on the women’s side during his one season there. With experience at the high school, junior college, NAIA, and NCAA levels, Di Pol brings an eclectic knowledge base and a wealth of expertise to his new role at Bethany.
“We are very excited for the future of our women’s wrestling program with Coach Di Pol taking the reins,” said Sansom. “Under Coach Di Pol’s guidance, we believe we will create an outstanding and competitive experience for our student-athletes on and off the mat. He has a great understanding of what it takes to start a program, while recruiting and coaching at a high level. We are looking forward to what the future holds for Bethany Women’s Wrestling.”
A coaching veteran, Di Pol has found success in both the high school and collegiate ranks, having developed one national champion, two national finalists, seven All-Americans, 44 national qualifiers, four regional champions, and five Academic All-Americans.
“With deep gratitude, I am honored to accept the position of Head Women’s Wrestling Coach at Bethany College,” says Di Pol. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to President Dr. Jamie Caridi, Director of Athletics Brian Sansom, and the entire Bethany staff for entrusting me with this incredible opportunity. After spending time on campus, meeting the dedicated wrestlers, and witnessing the remarkable facilities, it was clear to me that Bethany is a special place. I am truly blessed and thankful to God for guiding me to this moment and for the chance to contribute to such a vibrant community. I also want to express my deepest appreciation to my family for their unwavering support during this transition.”
As a nine-time Coach of the Year honoree, Di Pol has amassed a total of 333 career victories and three high school state championships.
